Our First trip to the E.R.

Check Spelling

The time finally came when we made our first trip to the emergency room with Cian today. Everything turned out fine. We actually feel a little silly, but are glad we went. Cian all of the sudden started screaming of neck pain this morning just before we were set to get in the car to run some errands. It was weird. I at first though his sweater was just irritating his neck so I took of his sweater, but the screaming got worse. I realized that a trip to the bank and Target (to get a present with Grandma "Park's" birthday check) was not going to happen. I laid Cian on the couch and he was continuing to cry, I made him a rice sock and gave him Tylenol and called Kevin. We decided to wait it out. This was about 10:00 in the morning. By 2:30 Cian was still laying on the couch and crying every time he moved his head. I was mystified. Kevin called to check on Cian and asked me to call his pediatrician. They were frightened by the unexplained neck pain and slight fever and told us to go to the emergency room right away. I had to control the tears. I am a really emotional person and I knew why they were concerned. It just didn't seem like Cian was actually sick. Kevin came home to help me and just getting Cian in the car was horrible. He was screaming bloody murder and Kevin had to hold him in the back seat. Every bump or curve made Cian cry out. We felt so bad. On the way Cian started saying he was sorry and it finally came out that he was using Kev's exercise equipment and he heard a snapping sound in his neck. He was too afraid to tell us b/c he is not allowed on it in the first place. We almost turned back home thinking that it was probably not Meningitis, but he was in so much pain we kept driving. Cian was still crying pretty hard when we reached the ER and everyone got pretty nervous when they saw Kevin caring him in and Cian crying like he was. They immediately put Cian on a gurney and put a neck brace on. They did a couple of "field tests", all the while Cian was going nuts. They gave him some Motrin and took him in for X rays. Kevin and I had to wait in the hall. He was in there forever. He had calmed down by now and we were able to hear the ongoing conversations between Cian and the nurses. About a half an hour later Cian rolls back out with out a neck brace. He is laughing, moving, talking. Everyone has fallen in love with him. He was all better. WHAT!!!!! He says, "The medicine made me better". We were released a little while after that finding that there was nothing wrong except a pulled muscle. He continued to wince when he moved his head wrong, but kept saying that he was all better. We couldn't believe it. We felt like maybe we had made a mistake in taking him, but would have not been able to forgive ourselves if anything had taken a turn for the worse.

We were also able to go up to my Mom's last weekend. It was so nice to spend time with them. We were able to see my grandma and spend time with Chris and Brian and the kids. Cian loves his cousins and looks forward to any visit. I am also putting pictures up of Cian and his Pre-school class. What a fun bunch!

Eww! What's that smell?!

So, at 4:00 this morning I woke up to a smell. SKUNK!!!! As I lay trying to fall back to sleep i was wondering how on Earth I could be smelling this all the way up in our bedroom which is on the second floor. Our windows are also weatherized for winter. I was finally able to fall back asleep trying to hold my breath (yes it really was that bad!!). In the morning we got ready for school and work all the while wondering why we were smelling this so strongly. Cian and I were running late so we hopped in the car and raced off to school. We still got their before the kids which was good because the first adult I met in the hallway asked me if I smelled skunk!!! How embarrassing! "No way", I thought! I confessed the situation at home and she helped spray me with room deodorizer ( I am laughing out loud as I write this so you can too). We checked Cian and luckily his shirt just smelled like bleach. The next teacher to walk through the door said that she thought someone hit a skunk with their car. (Our car, of course was the culprit(which was in the closed garage all night). The rest of the day was fine, until I opened the door to get back into the car......My goodness it wreaked (I swear I did not hit a skunk with the car). Then we had to go to the eye doctors and pick up Cian's new glasses. Inside the building I overheard someone say the word skunk ( I know this keeps getting worse!) We must have skunkdified ourselves by sitting in the car to drive to the office. Now I am mortified!!!!!! We get home and the basement and garage still stink as well the rest of the house. Our best guess is that a skunk was attracted to our garbages next to the garage and then got spooked and sprayed. Our furnace which is near the garage must of pushed the scent through the rest of the house. As of now you can call us stinky.....I am still laughing but with remorse that I don't know how long it will take to dissipate and if we will be the stinkies for long. It is not like I can tomato juice everything in my house right? Any ideas?
